Love must be sincere.
Duir, born April 4, 1991, is native to Southern Sudan. He and his family escaped the hunger and genocide that burdened most Africans. His father Kayier Reth was determined to find a better life, and the opportunity arose in 1994 when Duir, his mother, father, and two siblings arrived in New York. Duir was inspired by American education, music, and lifestyle. Having attended multiple high schools, Duir was known as a leader, musical artist, and creative thinker.
As motivated as Duir was, working a basic job in a tire warehouse wasn’t a proper fit. In 2013, Duir enrolled in Community College. By 2017, he graduated with an Associates of Arts and a Medallion of Achievement for transforming his life and striking passion in peers around him. Moreover, Duir remembered as a child how he loved film and music and wanted to continue in his collegiate journey. In 2019, Duir, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in Film Documentary and Entrepreneurship. After he acquired this great source of knowledge and wisdom, he started his own production business called Duir Media LLC. Since then, Duir has worked closely with his community and business owners to share their success through video, photo, and film production.
Critical of himself and where life would lead him next, Duir, stumbled into a recruiter's office. The pride he developed in conditioning the body and motivating others, awoke a fire in him. On March 2, 2020, at the start of a pandemic, he decided to try for the highest title man could offer: to become a United States Marine. His experience at MCRD San Diego resulted in some challenges for the newly contracted Private. However, the reaper reminded Dilang of pain all too well. The title was earned. For that reason, Duir understood that earning the title now meant learning the title. Upon arrival at SOI West Camp Pendleton, California May 29th, 2020 he endured the physical requirements of hiking, marksmanship, patrolling, operations, building, and strengthening those skills touched upon at boot camp.
Duir arrived at MOS school in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri July 28, 2020, with a fresh perspective. At that moment he took more initiative. Duir was polished, resourceful, and boosted with self-confidence. A week before training he was promoted to Squad Leader. The work ethic of Duir proved to be unmatchable. He received one of two awards handed out during graduation. The “Gung Ho” award for the most motivated Marine and that who represented the team comradery. In addition to that honor, he proudly carried the Guide and represented the unit by holding the flag.
Immediately, Duir reported to DETACHMENT 1 BULK FUEL, COMPANY ALPHA, 6th ESB, on October 16, 2020, in Fort Lewis, WA. There he stood out among his peers again by receiving high pros and cons, in addition to positive counseling for his determination in assisting with creating trip tickets while computer systems failed. His leadership saw this small task kept the mission productive. These awards prove Duir inspires greatness in those around him, as well as sustains integrity and relentless courage.
